General Power of Attorney is a document where you (the “principal”) appoint another person (your “agent”) to make financial decisions for you in the event you are unable to make your own decisions. This document allows your agent to handle affairs such as payment of bills, cashing checks, and selling assets. Powers of attorney terminate upon death, so they are not effective to manage or transfer assets after the principal’s death.
